Each year around November, fudge teams from across the land gather to battle it out to be crowned Fudge Maker of the Year.
This year the competition was held in our Cambridge store which is located across the road from the beautiful and historic Kings College. Passers by were greeted with a dance and a smile by Bath Manager Jack whose paddle skills will put a twinkle in your eye on even the greyest of Tuesdays.
First up were our 2011 Champions Canterbury, whose Vintage Vanilla was impressive to say the least! Mikey & Danes fantastic batch kicked off one of the highest standard fudge making competitions we have ever seen …but was this enough to cling on to the Fudge Making trophy for another year?
The marble slab was then cleaned down and another batch was boiled up. This time by our home team Cambridge. Our lovely CJ creamed his Traditonal Toffee into a beautiful heart shape – one for the ladies!
Next up were our team from Bath. Jack & Matt are a formidable team and 2 of the quickest fudgemakers amongst us. With the flick of a creamer and twist of a loafer their batch was ready to slice and sample – there really is nothing quite as delicious as warm fudge fresh off the table.
And then.. was Wills turn. Our Edinburgh Manager is so skillful with a creamer it is almost as if it is his 3rd arm. Whilst creaming a batch that was soon to become a Belgian Chocolate Swirl, he flicked the creamer upward into the air creating a fudge spectacular!
Next up was our Fudge Queen Tania from our Windsor store. Hailed as one of the top 3 fudge makers in the Company, she set about making a batch of delicious raspberry with smatterings of white chocolate chips. This batch was to become one of the hot contendors for the crown …
Doing it for the Girls our Oxford team were up next with one of the toughest batches – Maple and Walnut. Our lovely Claire took to the marble slab for this one aided by our shiny new Manager Jess , and what a fantastic looking batch it was!
Nearing the end of the day, just when we thought the fudge couldn’t get any better… Our similing, fun loving Enjoyment Liason Officer Ian created this stunning batch of Belgian Chocolate Swirl. The way the dark chocolate had melted through the vanilla created this wonderful marbled effect- and it tasted as good as it looks!
Last but not least was the turn of our Lightwater Valley team who opted to make a Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl. Firstly they spread peanut butter onto the marble slab, then poured the boiling fudge mixture on top before adding lots of delicious belgian chocolate chips.
And so the Fudge Making Competition 2012 came to a close, and it was time for the winner to be announced and crowned. It was an extremely close race with our Winner……drum roll please……… YORK … just pipping the others to the post with their truly magnificent Belgian Chocolate Swirl :
Congratulations to our York team and in particular Mr Ian for a truly fantastic effort and stunning batch of the finest fudge in the World, aswell as all of our other expert fudge makers . Our competition may be over for another year but pop into any of our stores to buy a slice or visit our Website.
